Gap and interval
Gap shows how far a driver is behind the race leader. Interval compares them with the car immediately ahead in the running order. A gap of +12.500 means 12.5 seconds behind the leader; an interval of +0.800 means 0.8 seconds behind the next car.
Lapped cars can be reported in laps instead of seconds. Use the map to distinguish running order from physical position: a leader approaching a backmarker can be close on the track but far apart in the standings.
Tyre compound and age
The tyre letter identifies the compound: S for soft, M for medium, H for hard, I for intermediate and W for wet. Age is the reported number of laps on that set, including previous running on used tyres. It is not a prediction of how many laps the tyre has left.
Following a driver
Select a driver on the map or timing board to follow them. Retired drivers remain on the timing board but are removed from the map. The leader and cars in second and third receive small highlights so you can find them when they catch slower traffic.
Syncing the map to your TV
If timing appears ahead of your broadcast, open the TV-sync control and add a delay. Adjust it against an obvious event such as a lap change or pit stop. The delay applies to the session information and driver data together; the connected-viewer count remains current.
Between sessions
fastcarmaps shows the upcoming circuit, the next session countdown and the official weekend schedule. Switch between local and track time when planning your viewing. A countdown reaching zero waits for the official feed to confirm session activity.
When live positions are unavailable
The map depends on Formula 1 providing current position data. Between sessions, during feed interruptions, or while an old circuit outline is being checked against new coordinates, live car markers may be unavailable. fastcarmaps does not invent or replay driver positions to fill those gaps.
Built for watching alongside the race
